79 - 93......body styles.
Ok, new to the forum, not so new to mustangs. However, I have trouble figuring out what year the different Fox mustangs are.
64-73....no problem, 94-06, no problem...it's the years in between that I can't figure out...well the foxes anyway...cause lets face it, the mustang 2's aren't real mustangs.
so help me out a little.
I know the early foxes had 4 headlights and a grill, the one way I can KINDA figure out the later year cars is the steering wheel, but I still can't quite get the exact years.
I called my 91 an 89 when I first saw it.

Well, ALL 1979-1993 Mustangs are FOX chassis cars. Actually, the 94-04 models are a modified version of the FOX chassis.
But I'll stick to the 79-93s aka FOX Mustangs. From 79-93 everything will interchange, either bolt right up or with minor alterations. Looks wise, the 79-82 models are very similar, 83-86 are similar (83-84/85-86 share two noses, but have the same style and lines), and 87-93 are similar. With the 87-93 they are all pretty well identical with, again, minor differences.
In '90 they started coming with airbags and in Canada we had daytime running lights. In '91 they started coming with altered fenders which had some more room for the bigger 16" wheels and tires.
If you want more details, here are some telltale signs. The 87-88 models are identical, you can tell by looking under the hood. They do not have a mass air sensor in the air tract. Also, they do not have a running Pony on the dash.
The 89 models have the "25th" Anniversary badge on the dash, and the LX models started coming with the GT power lumbar seats standard. Under the hood, these models do have the mass air sensor.
In 1990, they started coming with airbags on the drivers steering wheel. These did not have the Pony wheels from the factory, so they should have either Ten holes or turbine wheels (but which Stang has stock wheels these days??). They also have a 220km/h speedometer.
In '91 the V8s started coming with the 16" Pony wheels. These had the 200km/h speedometer. From 91-93 you cant really tell the difference.
Hope this helps!
