Zlatko has a little shameless behaviour in the past
2002 Ranger Making Clicking Sounds.

My buddy is a ref, and tried to explain to me the problems of his 2002 Ranger.

Im a little shocked that it's a 4 cylinder..but whatever.

He claims the engine is making "clicking" sounds, i cant find too many specs on the engine itself, but i need to know if it's an interference engine and what possible problems it could have before he takes it to his mechanic, cause he wants a "quote" of some kind for repairs.

I told him to check the oil, seems fine..it's at exactly 95% full..so that's ok..but im thinking the piston is slapping the valve if it is infact an interference engine.

Help him/me out.

Shot in the dark, but could it maybe be the wires arcing?, That kinda sounds like a clicking noise.

wow.. clicking noise.. I had that in a car and it was due to the water pully... it was worn out and made clicking noises

Easy way to find out... spray quick start on a wire at a time, then crank the starter.

It's also a quick way to dry leaking wires so you can get your car started in the wet.

I'm surprised no one suggested a collapsed hydraulic lash adjuster yet.

And you'd have to be REALLY close to hear a sparkplug arcing.

I realize that, just the first thing that came to my head, but i have also heard water pump pulley clicking....where about is the niose coming from, more specifics if possible.

could be lifters but im thinking the timing chain could be slapping against the casing......whats the k/m on it zlatko

K,i checked it out..

Loud *** slapping noise..it's not even clicking..it's ing loud as .

Theres only like 130 kms on it.

He took it to his mechanic, he opened her up..he's gonna need a new engine it seems..heh..there goes 1400$

midrange will become famous soon enough
new engine huh.. was it lifters making the noises then.. was there metal shavings and/or particles in the bottom of the oil pan or on dip stick..
