pc village (yonge s of bloor and yonge s of eglington) does good work all custom by hand plus chilling good service (most are of them are asian so haggling sometimes works).... but then again im always up for building it myself sometimes a combo is cheaper than buying all performance parts seperately

Check out www.directcanada.com or NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection. It's from BC so you'll only get charged GST and any order over $300 will get you free shipping. Should get much better bang for the buck if you know how to put it together yourself.

No it's not.

Sub total of 401.99 + 6% GST(no pst b/c it's from BC.) so

Shipping is free on anything over $300 so you don't have to worry about that.
I ordered my PC from them because it was so much cheaper than anywhere else. Shipping took 4 days from B.C. to Toronto.
It might look like a bit much for the case/psu but it's pretty good build quality. If you just want to use your old case/PSU though you could probably put that cash into another 512 of ram for a 1 gig total which would be nice. The video and sound would be onboard but you can't expect anything else with your budget.

canada computers has a CPU for 599.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=010911&cid=170 .45
the cpu itsself is pretty good. but 200$ more then what your looking for.
imo if you wanted to get a computer just spend your $ and buy a good one.. because later on you can still upgrade it. just get AMD.. you can overclock that thing lol

I assumed for a $400 machine he didn't want a gaming machine. If you do want a gaming machine he should spend a few more dollars on a PCI-E mobo(about $30) then pick up a used PCI-E vid card. I've seen 6600gt's for $80 on another thread. Not sure if I'm allowed to post other threads here so if you're looking for a used machine that might even be able to play games pm me and I'll give it out, unless somebody informs me otherwise.
That's a pretty decent setup, especially for the price. Only issue I have is they dont' mention what parts are used. I've been burned by cheap parts such as ECS and Maxtor in the past so I stick to some more well known brands. The worse product on my list is the mobo which is Asrock which is owned by Asus AFAIK, so it should come with a good warrenty on it. I'd be skeptical of no name PSU's as well. That's not to say all those machines crash and burn I'd just rather go with known quality my self. One reason why I could never recoment MDG to anybody.
