Hard Drive Data Recovery

Hard drive is ed..and I've got some important data on there (9000 digital camera pictures) that I NEED back. That is the only thing that concerns me. Does anyone know who does recovery on a drive that had the electronics fry? (I can see where it is fried on the outside)

Any info is greatly appreciated.

There is a place up in Markham off Alden road that does pretty good work although they are pretty expensive but they can recover data from hard drivers even after extensive damage.

I'll try to dig it up, I left my hard drive there after it crashed and after the estimate came back at $3500...mp3s and **** weren't worth that much

That is a little excessive, I think it's about 2.5 gig of pictures or so.

I found this place: http://www.a-data.com/index.htm they have listed an amount (says it won't exceed $800) which is high, but realistically, all they have to do is replace the electronics, and I will get it under warranty for the rest.

Does it spin up when you plug it in? If its only the board and not the actual motor or reading head that is dead, or even worse head to disk contact, it that case all hope or saving your data is gone; just buy another drive of the EXACT model and just change the circuit board yourself. There are several guides on the net. If the motor or reading head electronics are broken, that will require the use of a clean room since the drive will have to be opened and specialized tools will be required.

^^ Yeah, I've been told to try that..I'm just aprehensive with it, I don't want to lose over 9000 digital camera pictures.

It doesnt run when it's plugged in because the board is fried as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the tip though, it's worth a thought.
