2000 Chrysler Intrepid Check Engine Light...
Okay, my dad just bought this car 2 days ago safetied and e-tested, both ligit. It has a 2.7L V6, and 240,000km, regular matainence has been done, we have loads of service records for the car. I took his car tonight and when I was coming home, it had a prolonged start, but finally turned over, and the check engine light came on (hadn't been on before to my knowledge). As I was driving home it would not rev above about 2800rpm, it was like it was hitting a limiter, or maybe the tranny slipping?... I shut off the car and started it back up and the light was still on but i could rev past 2800rpm now. Any ideas?...most prolly I will bring it in to get scanned, but had anyone experenced this before?...any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

check engine means one or more of your vehicles sensors have detected something at fault, and by checking which codes it is throwing, it could be a clear indication of what is wrong
you can activate diagnostic mode to read your codes quite easily with your intrepid
get in your drivers seat, and put the key in the ignition
move it from off to on (do not crank, just on), off > on, off > on, off > on
just do it rather quickly about 4 times i believe (dont worry you wont break anything)
on the last repetition, leave it at ON (engine will be off this whole time and starter shouldnt have turned)
the check engine light should turn off and come back in a few seconds, it will be flashing now. the pattern it flashes will indicate the codes
each code is 2 digits (i.e. 24) the first set of flashes is the first number.
so it will look like this
FLASH, FLASH....... short pause (first number is 2, as two flashes were seen)
now after this pause, will come another set of flashes, possibly at a different speed
FLASH, FLASH, FLASH, FLASH (second number is 4, as four flashes were seen
if there is more then one code stored, it will pause AGAIN, and start the next sext of flashes for the next code
so if you do the key on/off diagnostic
and you see this
FLASH FLASH
pause
FLASH
pause
FLASH, FLASH, FLASH, FLASH
PAUSE
FLASH FLASH
thats codes 21 and 42
i think you should get the idea
get back to us with what numbers you got, and we can look up exactly whats wrong
and feel free to do it more then once if you mess up or loose count. you can do the key on/off thing a few times
ive done it in several of those fwd LX chyslers before, so its actually pretty easy

The wife has 01 intrepid & we had a interesting go with idiot lites . The car has 150,000 on it now& a 2.7 .At about 140,000 the oil lite comes on ,flickers at idle rev alittle & its out. Check oil, check wiring to sensor all good take to dealer cause under extended warranty ,change out sensor .All good till iuse the car on shut down(work),Im coming home and the oil lite comes on ,Check oil, listen to engine all good Just off nites out in middle of no where i took off the lite stayed on 4 400 k till i got home ,back to dealer new sensor (oil pressor check with gauge was good) alittle later oil lite comes on ,turns out the was a recall on the wiring harness to gauge changed that and another new sensor & its been all good .I,m not a chy. guybut that 2.7 has never given us any grief .we have put 60,000 k on the car in 2 years and thats the only thing to go wrong ,take care and have a good one .Later Bake
