Wonderful... She leaves on October 3rd. Arrrg!
Beware. Long Post. Don't read or comment if you don't care, please.
So... for the last 5 months my girlfriend's ****'s (parents) have been telling her the only way to be successful is to join the Air Force. Well, for those 5 months shes been telling me no way in hell she would join. And I agreed with her ... I mean shes 4'11", ~100 lbs, lives to shop, "high-maintenance" (dont tell her i said that), barely works out, and consideres an awesome weekend to be movies, ice cream, and me. Anywho, about 3 days ago I found out through someone else that she is leaving on the 3rd. Turns out she was too scared to tell me.
Anyway... Long story short, shes got basic for 6 weeks, 2 week break, tech school, then deployed for 2 years. She keeps telling me that she is doing it for us, and so we can get a house and start a life when shes done, but MAN, this SUCKS. Never in a million years would I think that my girl would join the military. I mean, im proud of her, but what if she doesn't get stationed in the local Fairchild AFB (near where I live). Then its 2 and a half years without her, except on holidays.
Well...She told me she'd write everyday and call me every chance she gets. The worst part is that she actually moved in with me for about 3 weeks and I was just gettin used to it and lovin it, and now shes leavin. I hate distance, but I'm gonna do my best. She told me just to go drink with my buddies more ... And I guess sometimes she has been immature, maybe this will shape her up.
Man, sorry about the rant, but try to picture this. Its been 1 year and a half, the most serious relationship I've ever had, and now this! I know I can do it, but this is gonna suck. So anyway, this is my last weekend with her and Im writing this as she spends time with her family. I've never been touchy or anything but this is startin to get to me! Guess I'll be str8up like arch and spend more time with my "extended family". lol
We're gonna get through it ... in the meantime its gunna SUCK though.

Well. Im sorry to hear it, and im not. The airforce is an amazing oppertunity and career choice. Most people that join LOVE it. As per your relationship, its going to endure some every tough times, but if you love each other enough, you will get through it good luck with it man.

Thanks for the support guys. Yeah Phate, I know its a good way to go, but just like you said, were gonna have endure tough times. Man ... all I know is that the full effect hasn't even hit me yet, and I'm sure it will the moment she leaves for basic.
She definately loves me, she doesn't stop telling me ... and thats one of the reasons its gonna suck so much. Somethin good, then its gone. Well, not gone, but ... "away". You'll probably see me b1tch and moan about it as soon as the 3rd rolls around.

I can tell you from experience though that its tough. My ex left me because I was joining the USAF, she didnt want a long distance relationship... we had been together for about 2 years. Anyway, the key is, to be flexable and not smother her, while also being there at every oppertunity to show you care. Keep in mind, its not only going to be hard on you, but definately hard on her, going through such an enormous change, and then throwing the relationship aspect into the picture... do your best to be the person she needs right now.

Hopefully it all works out. My husband had career goals of being a SEAL, but after we met, and planned to get married, he decided not to do it, because he wouldn't be around all the time and I woudn't get to see him that as much.

Sucks to hear that man, I know what its like to do a long distance relationship. It will be tough, but you can make it through, just takes willpower.
Oh yeah, you and your hand will make a good friendship in the meantime

Well I know it sucks for you- I just hope for your sake that she is the minority group when it comes to chicks in the military. As long as she has a decent head on head shoulders and has some self respect and good morals you should be fine.
If you don't have an amazing job or school, why not just move to where she gets stationed when she gets out? Between her pay and allowances, and as long as you make $10 a week you two should be able to make it on your own where she is stationed.

And about moving in with her... I am going to WSU right now for the Construction Management program, which is still 1.5 hours away from local AFB. But yeah... it would be really nice to be able to be with her for those 2 years. God thats a long time ...
Well, I get to spend the last night with her in the hotel she was provided... Wish me luck guys ...
