Two people escaped serious injury early today when their SUV rolled over several times on Hwy 400 after being rear-ended by a car police say was travelling at 200 km/h.
Police were surprised the pair only suffered minor injuries after their Ford Escape was hit by one of two cars involved in an alleged road race in the northbound lanes in the early hours of the morning.
The Escape was travelling north on the 400 near Rutherford Rd. in Vaughan around 1:30 a.m. when a BMW that police believe was racing another car slammed into the back of the vehicle, OPP Const. David Woodford said.
The impact caused the Escape to roll over several times, according to witnesses, while the two occupants were taken to York Central Hospital only suffering from minor injuries.
"If someone hits a vehicle at that speed, usually there's more serious injuries. People (usually) end up with serious or life threatening injures. It's just unacceptable to be driving at that speed," Woodford said.
The driver of the BMW was not injured, police said.
He faces a number of dangerous driving charges.
Police are looking for the second vehicle that was involved in the street race after it left the scene.
The northbound lanes of Highway 400 near Rutherford Rd. were closed for seven hours and reopened at 9 a.m.

ok
how many times have you been cut off on the highway? me... a loads, now lets think about this. the bimmer is driving fast doubling the speed of the highway when some one decides to jump in his lane cause they didnt care to check the lane their going into.
Seriously this happens daily, my brothes friend died the same way on 410 someone cut him off and he had no choice but to hit the side barrier, broke his neck on impact (he was on a bike).
Id only blame the driver of the bimmer if there was traffic on the 400 but this could have happend with just 3 car on the whole 400 and some being to ****ing lazy to check their blind spot.

ITs very possible that the SUV MAY have cut into the Bimmers way.. but at 1:30am. All you'd see is 2 lil headlights with wat appears to be more then enough room for you to change lanes..how many times do you see people doing 200km/h versus maybe 20-40km over the limit?? I have yet to meet anyone that can judge that much speed difference without staring at the mirror at night ( and in which case.. you're not payin attention to wats in front of youand cause another accident thats now your fault ) and blind spots? WTF ?!?!? Wat does that have to do with someone appearing to be half mile behind you.. and if someone IS at your blind spot at 200km/h it won't matter cause by the time you check it.. they'd be well ahead of you or INTO you.
Sorry to hear bout you bro's lost..
Another "Street Racing" story that can be taken as another shot to us by idiots on the road or to divert attention from other police mishaps .. take it whichever way you like.. there's no TRUE right and wrong answer..
I"m glad no one got seriously hurt durin the festive time

100% fault goes to the two idiots racing. If your gonna double the speed limit. YOU must consider that most other drivers can not even imagine speeds that high. Never mind assume you are travelling that fast.
