Why do Civic owners think they're fast?

I drive a 2006 Nissan Maxima (265hp) and a 2005 Acura RL(300hp). I know the Civic SI has pretty good performance, but it seems lately there are a million little riced out honda civics around challenging cars well above their capacities. Who put the idea into Civic-owners heads that they can beat cars with 250+ HP? They drive a Civic, not a race car.

You'll have to blame Hollywood for that one. Check the movie "The Fast & the Furious". All about riced out small cars. especially Honda Civics.

The reason the civic is so popular is becuse its the most easiest car to tune up and there very cheap. there are more after market parts for the civic than any other car out there. and so many people have watched to much of fast and furious that they get there mind thinking its the best car out there yet you can take a supra or a skyline and put some minor parts in and get twice the horsepower but they both cost alot more.

Why are people racing on streets where they are putting other people in danger? That is a better question.

just watch the fast and furious... but just like you i think they are more like the slow and sluggish... all joking aside there are civics out there that can hang with corvettes and 500+ hp cars... just not alot ...

Driving a small car like a civic, protege, or corolla feels fast because they are small, light, and loud cars. They feel fast, but they are really not fast at all.

9crx0 probably said the stupidest thing ever. "I am in the import scene""My friends import will beat your car""drive your ricer off a cliff"Nice contradictions dude. The plain and simple truth is that more HP makes things go faster, but all other things being equal, the RWD car always wins vs FWD.To answer the question: they think their cars are fast because they are gullible, and other stupid people told them Civics are fast.

because there idiots...they think if they put a new exhaust on a car and it makes a lot of noise that it must be fast....yea they have potential when you actually put some money into them but its not really worth it with the theif rate on those suckers....it drives me crazy too...they used to try and take me in a GT Eclipse thinking there something great....i just would laugh and drive away...they never could keep up....my guess is its a whole bunch of stupid kids that think there all that in there first cars and don't know how to act like adults or want to prentend there big shots like in the fast and the furious...OR they think they know something about cars and don't really know trying to take down a car with a whole lot more house power.....

It's not the car, it's the driver. Yeah, the majority of the Honda Civics on the road don't have the power of your 06' Maxima or your '05 RL, however there still remains a small percentage of Civic racers that have invested enough to outperform either of your cars. Now back to my original statement. If you feel the need to put these "little riced out Honda Civics" in their place every time one challenges you, then you're no better then any of them. Leave it to the authorities to deal with ... can't race forever and not get caught.
