Vancouver - Open Road Racing Problems

I'm somewhat new to the Canadian roads. I thought I'd give a fresh perspective on the scale of road racing occuring on a frequent basis.

For the last few months I've taken up life as a commuter. Prior, I was putting around my town mostly. This is a major change for me, because of the presence of a larger variety of vehicles, and in greater numbers.

I'm not in to speeding. In BC, the governments made it a much more expensive habbit. It's essentially been priced out of reach for all but the most wealthy.

So I do the speed limit while I'm on the roads to the best I can given the conditions.
That being said, there have been hundreds of people who drive up too closely behind me and flick their highbeams at me. This is their way of telling me to prep for an imminent race. Moments later, they switch lanes, onto the right (illegal to use for passing). This is my queue to begin our race.

I consider myself a below average sportsmen, so I do try my best to give them a clean race for the leading spot I've acquired.

Now that the race is on, it mostly depends on what car they have. I can beat them on somewhat rare occasions, but usually they have something with enough acceleration to breeze by me, so it's offten a disappointment for me.

Occasionaly, they don't have the power to get past me, and they then get stuck in the slow lane when they near the slower moving traffic.

At the end of the day, I don't usually enjoy having these pointless skirmishes.
It seems senseless and reckless. Sometimes we have races in less than ideal traffic or roads. Frequently they cut me off in the process of trying to win.

I wan't to know from more experienced drivers how to best deal with these petrol heads who regularly challenge me.

The input is appreciated.

If someone comes up behind you in the fast lane and flicks their high beams - stop driving 95km/h in a 100km/h zone and get the **** over. The left lane is for passing and if you're disrupting the flow of faster traffic then you should be shot - no question.
They are not looking to race, they are looking go pass your slow poor ***.

Do not slow me down or I will drive you into the guard rail.

Welcome to Canada!

Ugh... the amount of stupidity radiating from your post is almost nauseating. I find it rather odd that you think that people driving slow in the left lane should be shot, and admitted that you'd drive them into the guard rail. Perhaps it is people like you, with their "higher than thou" attitude and complete and total lack of regard for the general populace, that are the reason that the rest of Canada has so much animosity towards Ontario.

Now, I agree with the sentiment that the left lane is for passing, and the OP is probably not driving appropriately. But your response is so ridiculously pathetic that it leaves me to believe that you are:

a) Uneducated and poorly motivated - Highly unlikely to ever attain success in life as a result.

b) Born stupid - Unlikely.

In either case, I'd suggest some anger management classes.

It's truely a bizarre phenomenon; the only thing close I can compare it to is how birds fly into windows all the time. Everyday they pull up behind me, and then begin the race shortly afterwards, and then they end up behind slower traffic if I win. If I lose, then they can make me trail behind them. I guess they like to see if they've got enough 'passing power', but it seems childish to do this on the roads.

Another thing that doesn't make any sense, is how when I drive by a 30kmh zone, the car behind me seems to brake hard unintentionaly when I slow down 20kmh, at the sign start. It's as if they thought I was never going to slow to the speed limit.

Jerimiah is either telling funny stories like "why is it you Canadians give me the finger when Im making a left turn on a red light, no one else seems to be in the intersection so I use it? "

OR

this driver is oblivious to how things are done here

if its the later - Jerimiah, basically it's keep in the right lane EXCEPT when you want to pass someone + slower traffic keep right. Those ppl highbeaming you arnt challenging you to a race, they want you to move over to yer right so they can pass you, when you accelerate thinking they are racing you , you are an azzhole, hence they cut you off (perhaps trying to put you in the rails).

I really hope yer being funny tho

I think everyone has missed the point. The OP is clearly being sarcastic in his/her posts. They aren't serious.

Ok I admit my post was a bit over the top.

People that drive slow in the left lane need to learn that they are plugging up traffic by blocking cars behind them moving at a faster speed.

If you want to drive slowly, fine not a problem with that. Move to the right so others can get by you. That's all I am saying.

But hey kid, you call me uneducated?
I have had more schooling than you will ever have or will be able to afford.

Every post I see from you, you're trying to bash someone else. Are you that insecure at home that you need to come on a forum and try to belittle people?

The internet means nothing. Go away.

Grow up A790 - you lost in the game of life....

I beat that game and kicked your high scores ***.

Don't even come talk to me about "what I can afford", because I guarantee I make more money than you do. Next.

I post comments about the dumb ****ing statements I see on this website every day. I swear to god, I have never seen such a collection of dumbass people who think it's cool to whip through traffic and act like morons anywhere else, yet on this site it's as if every second member is some boy racer that thinks 92 Civics are fast cars and that the 401 is suddenly a road-course. Then there are people like you that beak off and say the most retarded things about very simple (and unimportant) situations.

What did you think I was going to say? You're threatening to kill someone because they drive slow in the left lane. Don't harp on me because your neck vein is twitching- I enjoy my life, and I also enjoy calling out the dumb fvcks on this site, you included. Thanks for giving me more fuel for the fire, jackass.

You are such an angry child.

I am not one of those morons who whip around in traffic. Those idiots are worse than the ones that go slow in the fast lane.

I'm done with you.
