Minimum Wage Set To Increase
CityNews: Minimum Wage Set To Increase
Workers earning minimum wage have much to look forward to at the end of this month.
Ontario is raising the minimum wage from eight dollars to $8.75 on March 31st, which places the province with the highest minimum wage rate in Canada.
It's the fifth increase since 2004, with the most recent in February of last year raising the minimum wage 55 cents from $7.45.
Major industries with minimum wage earners include accommodation, food, retail and the agriculture industries.

The minimum should increase. Here in Australia the minimum is $14.00/hour. I think that is a fair amount. THin kof the cost of living increases in teh past 5 years alone. Cost of living has gone up about 30% in that time. How can anyone afford to live in Canada anymore?

Hmmm its a complex issue. people often forget that raising the minimum wage effects every employee, because managment will want more money because they are no longer making that much more then their subordinates, overhead skyrockets in every department... chain reaction. I can't say if its right or wrong, I dont have the expertise, I just hope our finance ministers know what they are doing... although I doubt it.

I don't really think the raise of minimum wage helps much. If the employer has x amount of money for his staff only, raise of minimum wage could means he has to cut staff and could make things worse... but I know this is a big debate issue regarding the minimum wage for long time...
