Going for the Moon

Going for the Moon
I love the space program, and I really think it's sad that the Apollo program ended so abruptly and then that things practically stopped. I'm sitting here watching my DVD of From the Earth to the Moon and it just gets my juices going again. There's so much more to be done. Of course, this is the wrong economic climate for a jump in the space program and yet, there's a part of me that wants to say 'go'.
What are your thoughts?

I find the whole idea of space exploration fascinating. However, I have wondered about the trip to the moon. This voyage took place in the 60's with technology that was way less advanced than the most simple of cell phones used today, but we haven't been back.
In theory we should have been able to get a manned shuttle to Mars and back by now. I understand the argument that it would be very expensive, but you think we could have come up with the money in 40 years.
Totally off subject here: but why is it they can get a radio signal to the moon so they can communicate with the Apollo 11 crew, but 40 years later I lose my cell phone signal here on Earth when I go to certain areas?
