Glock 17
#16
This is what I plan to buy within a couple years, after I pay bills ect.
It may take a smaller round than a 7.62 but its fun to shoot

In my opinion much more enjoyable to shoot than a handgun.

Chad- I think I might be able to help you out a little bit here since I happen to own more than one Glock and carry one more times than not.
I'm sure you have looked into what you are going to use it for- personal protection, home protection, range shooting, or all of the above. I wouldn't carry anything less than a .40 cal for protection purposes. If it is going to be strictly personal protection and not something you shoot for fun- I would go with a 27 model. It will hold 10+1 rounds with the mag extender which should be more than enough to bring someone down. If the .40 isn't enough go with 39 and step up to a .45- If its something you want for all around, go with the 23. Its a compact, somewhat easy to conceal, but still big enough to fill your hand making it easier to shoot.
If you want only a range gun, go with the 9mm. The ammo is almost half the price of .40 cal. I'm spending anywhere from $16-20 for 50 rounds while my buddy is shooting 100 rounds thru his 19 for only $14.
Another beautiful thing I love about Glocks is the simplicity- just unholster and pull the trigger- no external safeties to worry about. Another nice thing is that the full-size, compact and sub-compacts are all the same size from the trigger guard back and reach to the trigger. Which to those who don't know means that if you shoot your full-size pistol a lot, when you pick up the sub compact you don't have to re-learn your trigger squeeze and hand positions.
A know thats a lot of information at once, and thats only the tip of the ice-berg. But even though the 17 is the most widely used LE pistol, its slowly being replaced by the Glock 22 or even the .45 cal Glocks as its been made apparent in many cases that it takes many more shots with a 9mm to bring someone down.

I was hoping you were going to respond considering what you do for a living.
Well it's going to be used for home protection and range shooting. Unfortunitly only "peace officers" can carry in WI.
I wanted the 9mm because I would save so much on ammo when I go to the range and I feel the 9mm would be enough to stop a home intruder. You don't think a 9mm is big enough? Hopefully it will never have to be used in that fashion but it only takes once.

Theres nothing wrong with buying online as long as you get it from a decent place.
You do know you need a license to get it delivered directly to you right? Otherwise you can get a gun sent to a store and they will charge you a small fee for it.

Depending on the size of your mitts, perhaps a 19 would suit you a little better. Best bet is to go to a gun store and pick them up and see which fits best.
Also- I can't believe they are that much. All Glocks are $520 here in the stores- $600 with Trijicon Night sites installed. (Something that I would HIGHLY recommend) I bought mine for $450 with my LE discount and then bought the sights seperately since I just took it to our armorer to have them put on.
Personally I think that people who hate Glocks are people who haven't shot a lot of pistols. Once you shoot a Glock and realize how simple it is to shoot, disassemble, clean, reassemble ect.. you will turn into a believer. Do a search online and see some of the torture tests Glocks have gone thru- its pretty amazing what they can be put thru and still perform as though they were new.

Im not meaning to threadjack, but i've been meaning to ask this question to someone.
Whats the best 'home defense' small shotgun around? I'd always had my sights on a Spas 12, and alas, they are now collectors items and super expensive... so what is a good alternative other than like a mossberg or a benelli?
