E.R.A.S.E Kick-off Friday April 28th'06
http://www.cnw.ca/fr/releases/archiv.../24/c6985.html
TORONTO, April 24 /CNW/ - On Friday April 28th'06, from 6am-12:30pm there
will be a major media event kicking off the new E.R.A.S.E. (Eliminate Racing
Activity on Streets Everywhere) program for 2006. The ERASE group started
several years ago with police services targeting "street racing" in the GTA.
The program has expanded and grown every year, with different police services
taking turns co-ordinating (2005 was York Regional Police, and 2006 is OPP).
The event will take place in the parking lot on the west side of OPP
Toronto Detachment, in the MTO Downsview facility.(The northwest corner of
Keele St. & Hwy 401 in Toronto.)
This year's event will be the biggest yet involving police services from
all over Ontario; Toronto, Barrie, Durham, Guelph, Ottawa, London, Peel, York,
South Simcoe, Waterloo, as well as MTO and MOE enforcement officers. The
police will be bringing the latest technology, helicopters, and other
specialized traffic safety tools to demonstrate.
An officer from the Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit will be on hand to
discuss the new strategy regarding the potential forfeiture of cars involved
in the criminal offence of "dangerous driving".
New, this year, we will also have a number of young men & women involved
in motor sports with their racing / custom cars. They will be available to
talk about their experiences and even the death of a friend in a street race.
There will also be representatives from the CAA, OSL and other community
groups discussing their concerns and new strategies.
Representatives from the insurance industry will be available to discuss
how people risk loss of family insurance coverage or even lawsuits resulting
from: modifying vehicles, unauthorized drivers, registering teenager's car as
"grama's" (to get cheaper rates), or being involved in a "street racing" crash
that may void coverage.
EMS Paramedics will be "on scene" to talk about their role in "picking up
the pieces".
This also marks the start of "Trauma Season" at local hospitals, mainly
from high-speed car crashes. Trauma Nurse Joanne Banfield from Sunnybrook
Trauma Center will be talking about the life-changing injuries, and deaths
that she has seen....and expects to see!
Minister Monte Kwinter will be on hand to speak about new traffic
enforcement initiatives.
MTO Minister Takhar will attend and introduce new penalties for high-
speed drivers.
Chief Superintendent Bill Grodzinski of the OPP Highway Safety Division
will talk about the newly expanded OPP Highway Ranger program and other HSD
initiatives.
We will have severely damaged cars from high-speed collisions available
for inspection to demonstrate the physics involved.
We will start at 6am (for morning TV & radio), with brief ceremony at
7:30am, and continue until about 12:30pm.
For further information: Sgt. Cam Woolley No. 5638, Ontario Provincial
Police, Highway Safety Division, Media Coordinator, (905) 841-5777 ext 2062,
Cell - (416) 809-9070, Pager - (416) 692-1521

Next thing they will be blaming street racers for drive bys
Ooh.. so I guess we should all start drifting and blame 3F3F..
not street racin officer.. Just thought I saw a dear and steered hard to miss it
EDIT: If they're that concern bout street racing.. then all they have to do is to get all cars governed @ 100km... done.. no more street racing and they'll lose an easy lucrative revenue source

"bud" i told you what to do with your time ...
if that doesn't work then check this out ... why don't you ban me again , since i got a full week ahead . i know it will make you feel really good inside , and you'll probably endup jacking off about it . then u'll be hungry and you can add to the sack some Kraft Dinner , maybe without microwaving it first , since that's also traditional . And by then , the hockey game should be close to starting , so you won't have to be dissapointed about hearing about me , not saving the whales , with taxes paid to the govt for their unemployment .
btw ... 93 gt what ... stang ? that's probably the only other car uglier than my 87 renault . and if it's a probe then u're just slow ... but we knew that either way . . try to loose some extra weight frfom it ... maybe have someone else drive it ?

Ah man this is gonna be fun. Can't wait for the roadblocks at cayuga too. You know whats the best? The cops don't give a bout cars that aren't modded but not maintained AT ALL. I've seen cars in winter with bald *** tires n bent rims so bad they were hopping off the ground. Thats a bit more unsafe than an APC muffler. Tho just as annoying

of all of that, I see that there's this forfeiture order now for cars involved in criminal-code dangerous driving.
Now here's the catch. It's officer's opinion and just about all of us here have experienced the abuse of power that some cops can exhibit..... Would that not mean that if one of us were to catch a power-tripping cop having a bad day (most likely to happen in Oshawa it seems...), we'd be forced to hand over our car as a siezed good. Now what if the charges get defeated in court or are withdrawn? Then what? We've already lost our car, and due to the idiotic beurocracy that is Ontario, there's no way to recoup our losses other than going to court and hoping for the best. The cost associated with taking the "law" court would far exceed whatever cost of the vehicle and would never replace the hours (and sometimes years) of hard work.
I can foresee quite a large number of lawsuits being launched this year. The police forces, the police union, and the officers themselves better be ready for more and more court duties.
