i have a sony dvd player with my hdtv and i honestly never use it. i just use the PS3 (blu ray) or the 360 with the hd player. they both look amazing. the one thing that gets gay about getting into this crap is it seems like you have to get everything....or nothing at all in order to make it look decent lol. god by the time you get all the monster cables, your blu rayz/hddvd, hdtv, reciever and other junk you have a million dollarz into something that will be outdated in 5 years lol
now that i think about it....ive wasted a lot of money haha

pros: its really cheap and its cool being on xbox live while you're watching a movie
cons: its another piece of crap to have in the entertainment center and its supposedly only gonna work on a xbox (it connects thru a usb cable so i would think someone will make a driver for it to work on a puter or whatever someday)
oh and i dont think they make it in any other colors. i have the Halo 360 so yeah it doesnt really match but whatever....i just put the player next to the wii so they kinda match lol

Unless your Xbox console is using the VGA or HDMI cable, you can't upconvert regular DVDs, they'll only play at a maximum resolution of 480p. If you're using the HDMI or VGA, they'll go all the way to 1080p.
By the way, most burnt DVDs look like **** when upconverted (or on a high def. screen), depending on what the original size of the DVD was. Most retail DVDs are on DVD9 (8.5gb) discs and the content is shrunk to DVD5 (4.7gb)... that's almost a 50% drop in fidelity.
Personally, I went with the Xbox 360 HD-DVD attachment and it works great for me.
