Double Shooting At Busy Scarborough Mall
Gunshots sent a busy evening crowd at a Scarborough mall scattering Wednesday, and left two men collapsed in the dust.
The parking lot of Scarborough Town Centre was the scene around 5:30 pm, and two males believed to be in their early 20s were wounded in the incident.
"It's a very busy time of night as you can imagine ... shoppers exiting the store at Sears both downstairs and up above," said Toronto Police Sgt. Ron Lawrence.
One man was found on the ground in the lot, the other was made his way to a staircase where he dropped. One was shot in the chest, while the other was hit in the abdomen.
People in the area were understandably shaken.
"It's very scary to come into the mall and see something like this go on in the middle of daylight," said witness Bryan Smith.
Authorities know little about the circumstances or motives that led to the bloody incident. One gun was recovered on the upper level and police are still searching for the second weapon. Investigators are also watching surveillance video for clues about possible suspects they believe fled the scene in cars.
Customers with vehicles parked inside the police tape were sent home in cabs, many in shock over what they'd witnessed.
"Nowhere is safe now," said elderly bystander Maude Winter.
"Only heaven is safe now."
There was initial concern that one of the victim's wounds was life threatening, but he came through surgery and is listed in stable condition.

Gun registry at its finest .Cops coming on media saying they use the registry 5 k times a year . Just like women use 911 when they lock they,re keys in the car . I couldnt care less if all the " gang " ( know what I mean ) members in Canada shot /killed / stabbed themselves . But doing it in a crowd , shows they have no concern for bystanders women kids old people . Which makes them bottom feeders on the life chain and should be treated as such..77.
