corrective eye surgery, my review
this may be a little garbled as ive got a little bit of double vision right now
6 or 7 years ago i wanted to get my eyes fixed, so i visited the lasik center in niagara falls, who was at the time advertising 900 bucks and eye, after my 160 dollar consultation they tell me its gonna be $350 and on top of that i need to buy the $100 glass and about $200 in eye drops. so i decided to pass, lost my $160 and went on with life. a couple weeks ago i was doing some work for a customer whos son had it done it fort erie and they raved about this place. soi called and the place is fantastic, the staff is extremely friendly and its jut a vey nice atmosphere to be in.
hen i originally went to the falls i was there around 4 hours with a room packed full of people, this place overbooked itself and the wait time alone was a turn off. this wasnt the case ith the place in fort erie. i went in for my appointment, there was 1 other person there and we oth got in on time within a few minutes of the appointment
because this place doesnt ove book there was gona be around a 3 or 4 week wait but i got luck and someone had cancelled for thursday, i went in on tuesday for the prelim. perfect.
so the place in fort erie includes almost eveything you need, its $2000 for both eyes for prk or the lasik, it includes all your drops, every follo up appointment, sunglasses, eye patches for sleeping, the only thing i needed to get was some preservative free moisturizing drops, vitamin c, flak seed oil tablets and swimming goggles for showering, about 40 bucks worth. also you get free repairs for the rest of your life, so if my vision goes back in 30 years, they fix me up and all id have to do is buy the eye drops
the lasik procedure they use a suction machine and pull your eye up a little and slice the layer of skin off your eye, do the laser thing and then lay it back down, this one is fine if your not active, dont do sports, stuff like that. my layer of skin is too tin so i ende up with the prk, plus they say that if i got hit in the eye years down the line it could mess up the flap. prk doesnt go under that flap, instead it goes through it and you have to wear a contact lense for a week as a band aid.
the procedure is eally very basic and completely pain free. they use freezing drops on your eyes, they clean them and do whatever else it is they do, then they hold your head, the laser follows your eye and it takes a few seconds, it blasts the eye a few times, you smell some burning, which they tell me is the machine, and then they clean you up. the most uncomfortable part of it is when they hold an ice cube in your eye to cool it off and spray cold water, other than that you dont feel a thing.
with lasik you get perfect vision right away, prk takes up to 2 weeks and youll get some blurring and hazing along the way mainly because of the contacts, but you get freezing eye drops and some percs and muscle relaxants to take home, those are gone, the freezing drops i have plenty of and i just used them because it felt like my eyes were burning.
the prk you will have discomfort for that week the contacts re in, the eyes are fresh from the treatment and in the mornings you can feel it. yesterday morning i laid in bed with a bag of frozen paintballs ove my eyes for 10 minutes and the pain ent away and i was fine for the rest of the day. this morning it was worse and the paintballs didnt do anything so i put in the eye rops and almost instantly the pain is gone, so if you get prk dont be shy use the freezing drops they help alot.
now for my vision, my left eye was alot weaker than my right eye and both of your eyes will heal individually so you wont regain full vision at the same time. the day after my left eye was stronger than my right which was a nice change. during the 1 day follow up i had a vision test and was immediatly able to read 4 lines further down the chart than i had been able to before the operation. and my vision is gradually getting better, although i think the biggest improvement will come when the contacts come out on tuesday.
to anyone interested in getting this done i strongly recomend it, its nice to be able to rive and play video games and see the tv guide on my dish without having to squint or wear my glasses. by far the best thing ive eve done. also i notice that my eyes dry up towards the end of the night alot because of the contacts and sometimes it feels like theres crap in there but there isnt.
hope this helps someone with their decision to get their eyes done, i just wish i had done it sooner
