Then why the did Ford/Mazda have to detune them so they weren't faster then the Mustang of the same year.

^ Where do you get your information from? The internet? A magazine is a hell of a lot more reliable source the the internet, at least they have the resources to talk to people at Ford, whereas the internet is just a bunch of Mustang drivers sitting behind computer screens telling people what they want to beleive and hear.
But you're right guys... how dare I question you. I mean you guys have probably read every single page on the internet regarding those cars so you have to be correct, right? And since the internet is never wrong, this means you guys are always right. It's not like I heard that first hand from a Ford Factory trained and certified techinician, and then read the exact same thing in an issue of Road and Track.
There's other cars that had to be detuned so it wouldn't beat the Mustang of the same year... anyone remember the Taurus SHO? Same situation there, there's a reason those things take so well to mods... Ford had to choke the engine so it wouldn't beat the slow *** 15 second Mustang from that same year.
Some of you guys need to give yourselves a slap in the mouth and realize that the Mustang ISN'T the fastest car Ford has ever produced. I'm not hating on Mustangs, I like Mustangs too, I'd probably buy one if I had the chance, I'm just saying what I've heard from reliable sources. (aka not the internet)
But then again, I'd probably be pissed off that a family sedan and a japanese built turbocharged 4 cylinder "Ford" was faster then my "All-American" RWD V8 "sports-car".

who cares if they detuned the probe back in 1987 or what ever year those things came out in. Like we dont already know a fox or sn was a lame duck from the factory...but you get what you pay for.
a probe (turbo or not) is not going to give an 03 svt cobra a run..or any svt cobra as of late a run.
Thats that, expecially a lame family 4 door stock 4 banger from ford vs the cobra

nonetheless, this probe is far from stock, and could give many stangs fistings
