I don't know if or how many airplane fanatics are on this board, but I figured I'd share these with you folks here. I'm not exactly an airplane buff, but I did grow up in an air force family so the interest is there. I could have benefitted from a bit longer lens. My 55-200 didn't quite get me as close as I'd like to get for some of these. Oh well. I hardly ever take pictures of stuff as far away as these planes were so I'll be alright for the most part.

My dad was in for 20 also. He retired to the Charleston area so that's where I ended up. It's a fairly boring base 364 days out of the year since it's just cargo planes. The air show livens things up a bit. And thanks, I'm pretty happy with the pictures. Some are cropped and magnified though. I'd need a longer lens to get that close otherwise.

Cool, I've lived in Sacramento, whose base is now closed, Omaha (Offit AFB), Travis AFB in CA bay area, and most recently Dover, Delaware. Now living right in the middle of PA because of my mother's family. So basically I haven't seen an Air Show since Dover in 2001, and your pictures bring back great memories, thanks! Like c5's running right over the house at 4 in the morning...

I was born in Okinawa, then we moved to Riverside, CA by March AFB. Dad got stationed in Italy after that and Mom decided she and I were going to stay in the states... After that, Dad and I went to Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, then I moved to Mom's in Norfolk, VA when Dad went to Turkey. After that, he retired to Charleston and that's where I've been ever since. I was too young to remember, but apparently they had the SR-71 in Okinawa. How badass would it have been to remember that?!?

Very BA, but you lived in some pretty cool places. I have a friend who was born in Okinawa also, another Air Force brat. He lived in a lot of really neat places as well. The most I ever left the country was Niagara Falls < LAME...

Awesome, I use to go to the air show here in WI all the time.
My favorite was when the guy that lived next to us was a Marine recruiter. He got me into U.S Marine 1 (I was allowed to sit in the president's seat) and the Blue Angels test session. So we could go right up to the jets and when they flew they went low and right over us which is illegal during air shows because of the crash like ten years ago.
