Bay & Dundas Shut Down All Weekend, King Re-opens
It's definitely a case of good news and bad for drivers in the downtown core - King St. West finally re-opened late Thursday night but now motorists a few blocks away have a new detour to contend with.
The intersection of Bay and Dundas will be shut down all weekend for TTC track reconstruction. It's a big job and a messy one and it will take a while. The busy corner won't reopen to traffic until 5am Tuesday. If you're heading north on Bay, you'll be diverted along Queen. Those going south will find a turnoff at Edward St.
Drivers going westbound on Dundas won't be able to go any farther than Victoria St. - an apt rerouting given the birthday we're celebrating this long weekend. Travel the same street in an easterly direction and you'll be stopped at University.
The road closure means the alternates - including Queen, Richmond, Adelaide, Gerrard, College, Yonge, University, Church and Spadina, will all be busier than normal. The good news is that because it's a holiday, there will be fewer cars prowling the downtown core.
This latest closure follows an opening - the long nightmare for motorists in the financial district ended late Thursday when officials finally received the go-ahead to re-open King St. West. The busy business district thoroughfare had been closed for three long days over fears of falling tiles from First Canadian Place. Inspections have been completed and officials assure the danger is over.
