Bail Hearing For Alleged Street Racers Charged In Truck Driver's Death

city news

It will be an all day affair but the question before a Barrie court is worth talking about: should the two men accused in that horrific alleged street racing incident on Highway 400 last Monday be granted bail? Twenty-year-old Prabhjit Multani and 19-year-old Nauman Nusrat (left) face several charges, including criminal negligence causing death by street racing.

Both are accused of driving up the busy highway at high rates of speed while weaving in and out of traffic, forcing a big rig driven by veteran truck driver David Virgoe to take heroic efforts to avoid yet more carnage. His evasive maneuvers meant he managed not to hit anyone else, but his rig tumbled down an embankment, slid into a ditch and flipped over. The 48-year-old was dead by the time rescue workers arrived at the scene.

The Crown is expected to take the unusual move of calling five witnesses to the terrible accident, including the arresting officer who was first at the scene, as well as an officer with Project Erase, a police venture to halt street racing. Also in the courtroom: members of Virgoe's family, including his still grieving wife Debbie, who intends to follow the case through to the very end.

when are they going to charge the trucker with speeding? and driving illegally in the left lane? he was just as much the cause of the accident.
too bad he's dead.. i would have liked to have seen him charged to send a message to all of the other dangerous truck drivers out there that you arent allowed in the left lane... and to stop speeding with your 50,000lb vehicles.

The trucker was speeding? From all that I've read, the truck was in the center lane at the time of the accident as well...

Regardless of the truckers actions, those two **** shouldn't have been driving the way that they were. This is why they attach the label to everything. I've said it before and I'll say it again...That's not street racing, it was just dumb.
Besides, they were clearly trying to drift.

the "witness" Tina, said that she was driving in the centre lane (again she was a POS driving in the wrong lane of a 3 lane hwy.) and the truck changed into her lane FROM THE LEFT.
so we have 2 things here. tina was driving in the wrong lane, effectively blocking access between the driving lane on the right, and the left most passing lane. the lane she was occupying is the truckers passing lane.
she was driving slow enough that she was probably being passed on both sides for her entire trip and blocking the trucks from passing slower traffic (like her) that were driving in the proper lane (the right most lane... otherwise known as the driving lane).
the trucker would have to be going above 100km/h to pass her, most likely banging off his 115km/h speed limiter.
Tina claims that the "racers" passed her on the right and "cut off" the truck as it was/or had just completed merging back into the middle lane.

ALL 3 PEOPLE INVOLVED ARE EQUALLY GUILTY.

the trucker backed up traffic and the stupid Tina helped block as well, so these kids flew past on the right (they were in a hurry to get to wasaga )

the possibility exists that the trucker saw them at the last second and swerved to avoid... or maybe the dumb kid brake tested him because he was pissed that the trucker was driving in an illegal way and blocking the passing lane.

either way the "hero" trucker crashed his truck for no reason.. he wasnt hit, and the cars that cut him off (if true) were going faster so there was no possibility to hit them.

glad to see someone is speaking up about this. I was ran off the road by an truck driver while driving to ottawa because I wasnt driving fast enough for him in the far right lane. I was driving 100 km/h and he was going at least 130 km/h. he came right up on my rear and when he saw i wasnt going any faster, the went around to pass me and then proceeded to push me to the side of the road.

its also funny how many trucks have been in accidents the last few days! maybe they need to be watching these guys on the road too!!! they seem to drive at least 120-130 on the hwy 400 everyday.

as said above its sad to see this guy die and no one should ever die, but please be fair in your judgements and at least investigate to see what EXACTLY this truck driver was doing on the road regardless of how bad it looks politically to potentially charge someone who has died. gotta love politics

trucks as far as im concerned are the number one cause of gridlock traffic in the morning. watch them driving on the highway, they will leave 3 football fields length in front of them so they dont have to use their brakes and gear up/down. this causes a HUGE line of traffic behind them. Add to that one truck is worth 7-10 cars in length. Take 10 trucks off the road during rush hour and thats equivalent to 70-100 cars off the road!!
