Scheduled maintenence? new buying
Hey guys, I'm looking at a 1998 Z28 M6 with 97,000 miles. The owner said the clutch has recently been replaced. I'm wondering what other things should I check to see if they've been replaced??? Anything from 60k or 100k tuneup? And for you experienced guys, what should I look for on the Z that isn't listed in tuneup but is a known problem?
Also, with it having about 100k miles, what should I be expecting to replace or do to last 150k miles? Thanks everyone

I would just check the normal things and since it has 97,000 miles on it you might want to check it pretty good. Because a 1998 should not have that many miles on it. Test drive it and make sure its reaction to the throttle is how it should be, if it feels sluggish then it might need a new fuel pump or plug wires. Also check to see if the AC works. Drive it and see if the steering is aligned properly. Make sure the hood, the doors, and the trunk all sit flush with the rest of the body. Also check to make sure the battery is getting charged just fine, so you know the alternator isnt going to need replaced. I would just look for little stuff like that. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

any wear item,100,000 mile mainenance is change plugs, and check wires. Check the tires, belt should have been replacedat last service. Figure average milage is 12,000 miles a year so milage isn't that high check out www.edmunds.com and use the apraise a car link enter all teh info it asks for that will get you a rough idea of what you should pay. Here's some info that could be helpful also see if any apply

I wouldn't pay over $10,000 for it either

Sweet, thanks guys, that really helped. Originally I was looking at 97s with the LT1 (thus LT1 in my name), but found a nice 98 that I might be interested in.
Wow, I didn't mention price and you guessed $10k, I'm going to offer $7-8k first and see where it goes from there.

Also check the stereo crank it up nothin would **** me off more than to get a car with blown speakers. And yes make sure the steering is right when you test drive it let the wheel go it should keep going straight if the roads flat. Also look at the paint at an angle in the sun and feel it, it should be smooth a lot of car dealers i know like to use the spay touchup and you could feel it when you rub the paint, they usually use it on the front bumper. As grant said i wouldnt pay more than 10K for a 98 with 100K on it.

Re:
Okay, I test drove the car. All in all it was in very good condition, the paint was good, the tranny shifted smoothly, and the engine made no noise nor did it leak.
But one thing I was worried about was the oil pressure, at idle it was slightly under 20PSI, and at WOT it was only at 40PSI. I'm not sure, does that sound right for a LS1? Plus the owner is a girl and in general she didn't sound like she knew too much about cars, she never checked the oil, and it was very down at the add mark but she drove it like that for a bit. I'm thinking that might contribute the the low oil pressure.
Also, though carfax shows one owner, she is not the first owner. A highschool boy owned the car first until 60k miles, which worries me.
She seems solid at her $10k asking price, which I think is still too much for the mileage, I'm thinking about offering $7500, and going to $8k at most.
What do you guys think, I really appreciate any input.

I agree completely, if you're not completely happy with the car walk away. I don't think I could buy it if I knew some highschool kid was the owner for 60k miles, let's be honest you know the car was beat on.
And yes I think I paid 12k for mine with 42k. BTW it's a '99 with every option execpt auto and leather(which I added anyways).
