reverse on a manual transmission
not sure why i just thought about this and it may have already been brought up... but about 90% of the time when i go to put my car in reverse i need to put it in 5th then go straight down into reverse... if not it makes a grinding noise.. every once in a while i can take it straight to reverse but most time i go to 5th first... anyone else do this or am i just weird

theres a secondary shaft that picks up centrifugal force because of the primary shaft and then you need to go into a forward gear to make it stop spinning then you can go into reverse, otherwise if its spinning and you go the other way with the gears it will grind.

well aaron i say we slap a 2 speed powerglide in there and fix that will fix all the drama. or lets see just grind the hell out of it.. who gives a rats a$$ lol.. jk... we was grinding gears today, def me on that tractor i was busting 2nds.... lloll

yea its normal, my moms 04 TSX does it too. all manuals do it. if you leave the car in neutral for a little bit it will stop itself but its easier just to throw it in a forward gear real quick to stop the shaft then just put it in reverse and your fine. nothing wrong

Short answer: The T-5's have no synchro mesh for reverse. kAt least the last two WC T-5's I rebuilt had no synchro mesh.
