Possible tranny going bad?

I think it's my tranny, I kinda felt like my clutch was slipping every now and then when I would take off from a complete stop, and now when it goes into second and third, there's a distinct whine coming from the engine. Well I came home, checked the tranny fluid and I was almost empty even tho the car was hot, so I drove the porsche over to walmart and bought some tranny fluid and put it in and last night it SEEMED to be getting better, but then today it wasn't. Anyway, this is gonna be copied and pasted into a thread in general tech. I swear it seems like my Camaro doesn't want me to be able to afford the rims.
The only thing that makes me think it isn't the tranny is that it shifts smooth as hell still, there aren't any changes to shifting. Tried in regular drive and in overdrive, no change. It seemed to be getting better yesterday as the car got hot but it never fully went away. This morning, when it was cold, it was louder. Come to think about it, last night on the way home it was cold to warm and didnt really get "hot" until I was at home. Any ideas anyone?

may be pump going out the bearing can make that noise, may be something on the front of the motor (you did just have that apart) pull the belt and see if the sound is still tehre(if it's worse in gear it's a trans problem) did you by any chance have a trans flush recently?you can try changing the fluid it may help, the trans can go making that noise for years or die tomorrow (I had one theat went 5 years like that before I just changed the trans)

Didn't try pulling the belt, but it only makes the noise in gear, tried brake torquing it and doing it in neutral and neither made the noise, only when it starts shifting into 2nd and 3rd.

It reminds me of ambulance sirens... only a little lower... bearings being bad sounds like a big possibility.

go to a place in Lapeer called Bryans (or Brians) transmissionit's just off m-24 (about a mile past my parents house actually) really good prices and builds the best trans I ever used (dared me to break the one in my cutlass drag car still haven't but have gone through 3 engines) I know it's a drive but he's the best I have found

I guess my trans fluid was just low, it ran fine today. I guess it just took awhile for the added trans fluid to work its way into the trans since it was so low?

well it was running hot and the fluid was below the cold mark, it was really low, I don't remember the last time before that that we checked or filled the fluid up.
