new gearhead help transmission clunk
Hey new gearhead here.. names Wes just bought my 95 Camaro 3.8 v6 and It has a few miles on the engine I figured it would be the perfect project car...
anyways i got a little rough on it my first week of owning it wanted to show off a little and I started having a few problems...
I have the manual 5speed when im in first or second gear when I get on the gas the transmission or engine is moving way to much I hear a clunk under the car like as If I were revvin her up and dropping her.. and it seems like when im holding my shifter it jerks way to much...
my own diagnosis "Guess" is the motor mounts?? is this the case or is it something else... and if it is the motor mounts how hard are they to replace on my baby..
I think my reverse gear is missing teeth or something cause I have to pull down and hold it when reverseing so it doesnt pop out of gear.. how much is the gear? I can drop a tranny my problem is openin the tranny to actually work on it thats a territory ive never experienced yet... and im a little nervous.. and if I was to tear open a tranny i deff. would rebuild it and clean everything real good.. make sure everything is in order. is there rebuild kits for our cars please point me in the right direction.
i do all my own work on my cars.. i usually have no idea what im doing but I always try to figure it out...

The movement issue with your shifter and the clunk definately sounds like a tranny mount.
As per it popping out of reverse... you'd have to rebuild the tranny. That is something i'd NEVER tell to try on their own. Im a technician and I still wont break open a tranny unless its my own. Its the most complicated part on a vehicle, and the hardest to fix.

yea transmission are crazy to work on, I just finished a TH350 in my auto mech class, a 3 speed auto is no joke...and a transfer case sucks hella too, not the easiest thing to fix but it isnt insanely hard, just very time consuming if you dont know what your doing.
