We remove the belt to keep the alternator from running.NEVER EVER disconnect the battery to test an alternator it will cook it (I'm an ASE certified mechanic, and if you ever read any service manual on charging it will tell you that, that is a redneck way to check, and worked on the old muscle cars that had an external regulator) a drag car doesn't have alot of stuff a street car has, such as a heater, and passenger seat
