LT1 Or LS1 Swap?

lt1 is more of a bolt in on the earlier cars, but if you get a full cradle either one is an easy bolt in (relitivly speaking) the ls1 is a little more reliable (doesn't have the optispark that is prone to failure)you would want radiator, trans, suspension, there will be a few misc. parts also. to do it right your looking at $2000-$3000 for used at least depending on engine cost, new look around $10,000

mine is a 1998 3.8L. i was just wanting a v-8 motor that is not extermly complicated to put in, and the overall cost, of evrything i would have to buy is not that much. and i was wondering if the bellhousing is the same? could i get away with the 5 speed i have in it now? if not how much and what kind of one that i need?

Find a wrecked one for sale, usually some posted on the boards, then gut the heck out of it. or for the price of the lt-1's find a decent one and buy her. Save you a lot of time and effort.

Well i know you have to have a different radiator, the front suspension, and if you plan on doing the swap put in a one piece driveshaft and replace it with the P.O.S. two piece driveshaft...

This is what u need to look at. In the end your gona spend over 5 grand for a swap.

However yes a carburated motor will have a lot less wiring.

carburated may be slightly easier to install, but you will fail any emmissions test, plus it still isn't cheap the only thing you lose is the computer, you still have to change suspension, cooling, trans, driveshaft, motor mounts
