E-TATE street rep is low. keep going
loud bang followed by buzzing

i was cruisin around in my 84 camaro yesterday and i mashed on it from a fairly low speed (5-10mph) and began to go through the geers. i pushed in the clutch, shifted second and when i let the clutch out i heard a loud bang. i let off the gas and as i was coasting away i can hear a buzzing/grinding noise from under the car. when i step on the gas slightly the noise will go away, but the noise returns whenever im not on the gas. also the noise is dependant on the speed of the car. if i am coasting fast the noise is fast but as i slow down the noise slows as well. what could this be? i assumed it was the rear end, but im not sure. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Could be one of a few things.

The rear end, and the reverberations from it is traveling up the driveline making it sound like its coming from under you.

The tranny, you tore up a synchro.

There are a few other little things, but they are quite less likely.
