Boohoohoo ... I just ordered it, and I guess I was a little late! The lingenfelter guy called me and said they discontinued it!! ... Dangit! Punished for my procrastination agian .... :banghead: :banghead:

Anyway... Now that I'm considering buying that rk-sport body kit, I'm a little more curious about that home-made CAI ... My other option being the $250 SLP CAI.

What does this home-made one consist of ... How hard is it to make ... And does it yield about the same performance gains?

i tried to make one for my sisters eclipse and totally ****** up the stock intake. Now i have to buy a whole new one for her. You can make one but it wont be the same quality as SLP.

Good! That thing is a waste of money.. If you want an opinion, do NOT waste 250$ on a CAI... thats rediculous. You can get the same benefit for $60, **** probably even $20.

Thank me for saving you 15% or more on car insurance.

You should be thanking Lingenfelter too for saving you the money.

Most people go to home depot and buy piping. I know arch has a custom one, but his is for a grand prix, so its a little different. Honestly, youre going to have to buy a filter anyway... Unless youre looking to go a cheaper way, I say just get one off ebay.

The ones off ebay aren't full piping though ... They come off the pipe that is squished down to about a centimeter and is still constrictive ... I want a full piping CAI. The home-made ones are full aren't they?

No, they do have ebay ones that are full piping. I have one. Unless you are talking about all the way to the throttle body, then yes, youll have to do that yourself. Youll have to do that really custom because theres a really tight squeeze there of less than 2", which is why that piece is there to begin with. so no matter what, youre going to have that most likely, you cant go up and over because of clearance. Ive wanted to figure somthing out instead, but I havent yet.

Yeah, I meant from the throttle body ... I just made a new thread about the home made CAI and I posted some sites with instructions ... those instructions involve piping from the throttle body right?

yours is different...your intake goes straight over your radiator, these late 95-97 3.8s have the older style intake that goes behind the drivers headlight.

Cool ... Thanks dude. I'm still trying to find a way to make my own 3.8L intake, but if I fail, I might just have to buy the lingenfelter.

any lt1 intake will work as long as you get the 1le elbow. you can find plenty of slp intakes used if you look for well under 100. there is also the k&n option. dont waste your time with the homemade stuff. after you buy a k&n cone filter, the piping, and connectors, youre going to be close to what you could buy a used one for anyway.
