this just keeps getting better and better
first i broke a valve spring retainer (after replacing my opti), then my fuel pump goes out, now i have a nice transmission problem:
I was heading down to the WCFB meeting and stuck in traffic on the 405 in santa monica...going about 5-10 mph and i heard a loud metallic clunk under my car, i thought i hit something, so it happened again, i immediately pulled over, looked under my car, saw that a bolt came out of the rear end cover, the one that holds the ebrake bracket, so the bracket was hitting the wheel, so i thought that was it.
i started rolling and it happened again, louder. so i pulled over, pulled the rear wheels off (on the shoulder of the freeway ) and checked everything on the rear end, control arms, springs, shocks, sway bar and links, driveshaft, torque arm, panhard bar, EVERYTHING! it was all sound.
so i did a lil testing, as long as the wheels roll in either direction i get a nice loud clanking. so i had to call AAA.
it cost $468 to tow my car home from santa monica. when i got it here and he was unloading it from the truck i heard it from the outside...my heart sunk cuz i knew it was the transmission.
this morning two of the guys i work with at our shop came to look at it, we determined it to be the input shaft bearing. in relation to the rest of the transmission, its on the very front, right behind the adapter plate which is behind the pressure plate/clutch:
luckily business has been slow at the shop this month, so we can probably fix it, but damn, it never ends with this car.
