A couple WP questions.

I have a couple of questions that I hope my family here can help me with.
Just to fill you guys in on what is going on, I am in the process of wrapping up my EWP install. I bought a CSR EWP, 160* Thermo., Fel-Pro gaskets, all new Goodyear hoses, Royal Purple "Purple Ice" and a painless wiring harness. I have the pump on and installed, but now I am hooking up all the new hoses. Here are the questions:

1) Can I delete the hoses that run into the firewall going to the heater core? Ever since I put a 160* thermo in there, my heater has never got hot anymore. So why not delete them to clean up the engine bay?

2) If I do delete the heater hoses, should I still run a line connecting the two outlets on the WP with the bleeder valve installed? Or should I just cap them and not worry about it?

3) After all the hoses are installed, should I run the engine for a bit to drain all the coolant that was left in the block? I am going to be running a Dex-Cool/Water/Purple Ice combination. I just didn't know if that can mix with the left over Green coolant that was left after the drain.

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

You should be able to delete the heater hoses without too much trouble...I would do the same, but the heater helps extend the driving season up here so I'm keeping them for now. As for the bleeders, its up to you. They help you purge your system and get all the air out quickly.

Now about that DEX-COOL. In my humble opinion, I would stay with the green stuff. Someone put Dex-cool in the Camaro I have now and when I ripped it down it was built up everywhere. Everyone I have talked to has run into the same issue with it. Stay with the Green brother!!

if ur gonna delete the heater hoses u might as well take the whole "assembly" out and buy a metal plate that will cover the hole. The bleeder screws u should keep cause it does make it easier to bleed ur cooling system. flush the coolant
out and stick with the green stuff!

Alrighty, I decided to stick with the green stuff. I never knew that Dex was such a crappy product. Anyways...I am almost finished. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Update: I am very impressed!! I never knew that upgrading a water pump could make such a huge improvement. The car revs quicker and I can definetly tell a HP increase. I really think my old WP might have been frozen or something because of how much better it drives. I also can not for the life of me get the temp to go above 180*. Anyone thinking about doing an electric water pump conversion...don't think about it anymore. DO IT!!

I'm sure it works good- it will be an upgrade this round on my car as well..esp with the price that summit has on their pump- $140 can't beat it. I'm not worried about it failin since its not a DD for me.

It was actually very easy. I got the painless wiring kit, so that made it that much easier. What I did is buy a used WP. I installed the new CSR pump, 160* Thermo and coolant sensor in the housing then just swapped out the entire housing. You have to press out the old bearings and such and then notch the housing for the new pump. I also had Summit price match the CSR, so I got it for only $148.

I also have an extra WP housing with the bearings, shaft and impeller pressed out. If anyone is interested, shoot me a pm.
