Testing waters: '98 Mercury Mystique - modded
Due to having some financial difficulties,it might be a smart move to sell my beloved Mystique,so I'm throwing it out here to see if there's any interest at all.
Alright...so the Mystique is basically a Ford Contour (Contour SVT ring any bells?) with Mercury emblems and a different grille, and the differences end right there.
So here's what I've got,and what's done to the car. For a Mystique, this thing sticks out and turns heads, mostly because it's a fairly unique car to do up.
'98 Mercury Mystique GS Sport
4 door
Black exterior on Grey leather
125hp Zetec Inline 4
4 speed automatic transmission
Limo black tinted windows
Blacked out tail lights with trunk reflector painted black
Installed OEM spoiler
Small chrome exhaust tip
Masked headlight lenses
Sylvania Silverstar low beams (also have Streetglow Xenons as spares)
Sylvania Cool Blue high beams
Titanium silver,APC blue or OEM amber turn signal bulbs
Painted chrome grille black
Windshield washer nozzles, brake calipers and drums painted in chameleon purple (turns blue, green, orange, brown etc in the light, quite a unique feature)
Converted cloth interior to leather seats and door panels
Painted flat black dash panel in chamelon purple. Stands out and is quite unique. Can always be painted black again.
That's about it for the mods. I'm keeping my stereo from it,so I can either provide you with the stock speakers and am/fm/cassette radio,or just take it with no stereo and put your own in it. This is a great car to have a system in,it sounds awesome.
I've put minimum $2500 into mods in this car,and this summer was planning to put a Contour SVT kit on it,and drop it on 17s,then do some performance work.
Factory options:
Power windows
power mirrors
power door locks
cruise control
Air Con
ABS
power driver's seat.
It's a GS,so it doesn't have remote keyless entry, sunroof, traction control or the V6 like the LS does.
New parts:
This car has had a whack of new parts installed over the last year and a bit. In late '03,just before 160 000km,the original engine started knocking, and was replaced under warranty,so this car has a new engine and transmission in it,and I have not had a single mechanical problem with the car. When my aunt and uncle owned the car,it was a lemon for them, but I've owned the car going on 9 months and it's been the most reliable car I've ever owned.
Both front and rear struts have been replaced.
New snow tires installed this winter (November '04)
New resonator and flexpipe (August '04)
So,there are 249 000km on the body, and less than 100 000km on the new engine and tranny. All this life, the car has run highway miles. It used to make trips from Kincardine to Ottawa, and lived in Kincardine from '97-'03,then Ottawa for 6 months, and I've had it since July '04 and do all highway miles. This car runs great, and is always maintained. It does have trouble starting if it's any colder than -20c outside though.
Bodywise, there is no rust worth mentioning, though around the bottoms of the rear wheel wells, the paint has started to flake, and it has been too cold for me to sand it down, prime and paint it. The front bumper has been through alot, and I have been planning to replace it this spring, and the bottom is cracked and the paint was so horrible on it,I sanded it down, primed it and painted it myself with black bumper coating paint which has held up very well.
This is a great compact sedan, with lots of potential. It went from a granny car into something that looks pretty clean and where ever I go,I always get comments on it from stuff such as "never seen one of those done up before" or "hey,I like what you did with the *insert mods here*"
So,with the car being in pretty good shape, relatively low miles on the new motor, new parts, mods considered as well,I think $4000 or best offer would sound fair to me.
