light tint will look like $hit, its either completle black or none at all,
on ebay they sell 2 kinds of it. one, darkens by the layer, the other is no matter how much you aplly, still same tint. you choose. and you will get a ticket because you not going to have red reflector in the back. tinted taillight only look good on some colors, but thats just my opinion.
this is how you do it:

Or try this:
Lamin-x.com - Protective Films
Protective film that also comes off if you get bored of the look, or police hassle you.

I just tinted the tails in my sonoma about a month or so ago....I used the hobby shop and it turned out great. Not 100% perfect, but still really pleased for a couple hours work. Best advice; Wetsand the lights before smoking them and sand off the d.o.t. lettering or else it'll look like crap, also clear coat them after using a clearcoat that is compatible with w/e you used to tint them.
Heres some pics...I agree it only looks good on some colors. Oh and so far no trouble from the cops and I can see all my lights fine as well as the reflectors.
And yes, I know...I still gotta do my third brake light....I'll get to it as soon as I can stop fixing everything else.

I've been thinking about trying this out for a while and came across another good "how to" article using Nightshades tinting spray. He cuts out circles and sprays over them, looked cool after it was done

just remember that smoking the tail lights is basically the same process as painting metal.....prep - prime - sand - spray - wet sand - clear
TIP#1 - remove the tailights from the car
TIP#2 - when spraying - spray past the lense about 6", then go back - this will avoid the build-up
