Good material to recover interior?

I want to recover my interior in something possibly or maybe just repaint it. Think it would look good covered in something vinyl like or just repaint it? If I went the route of recovering I'm not sure how hard vinyl would be to use what is a good (somewhat cheap) material to use? I'm thinking of recovering the headliner in suede. The original headliner was broke in the middle so I took that out and it fell apart when I took the fabric off. I got a new board in great shape, but it was black so I attempted to recover it twice but I couldn't get the curved areas of the t-bar perfect so that's mostly why I'm looking at other materials for that.

i redid my sail panels in suede and black carpet. cost about 15 bucks for everything. was pretty easy IMO. just have to take your time and be patient. i spent about 5 hours on the first one and 3 on the second one. the second one didn't turn out that great either b/c i was in a hurry.
heres my old thread. http://www.projectcamaro.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=6375
it could have turned out a lot better than that but you get the idea

i would look into microfiber, and to get the curves right you might wanna use a heat gun or a hair dryer to heat up the material to be stretched.
