Legacy Predator amp
#2
Predator sounds like a hardcore name, so naturally they must be crazy loud
The amp may claim 2400 watts, but in reality it wont push out even half of that. You'd be lucky if you got more then 150w/ch, assuming its 4ch. If its 2ch double that..
Rule of thumb, quality audio manufacturers rarely advertise the MAX wattage, as hitting max wattage is nearly impossible unless under optimal conditions, which you probably wouldnt be able to provide, nor could the amp handle it. Personally I wouldn't pay more then $60 for one of these amps.
edit: nvm, I wouldn't pay more then $40

lol havn't had any experience with this line of Legacy, but I did use an amp from their Vibe line for a little while as a daily beater, and it performed quite well for what it was. It had something like 1600watts spraypainted on the lid, but my current 320wrms Pioneer outperforms it easily. I should add, I remember having a funky buzz coming from one of the channels at one point, then it would disappear. It would come on every once in a while, and was annoying as hell

if you getting the amp for under $100 then its ok but if your paying more than that then dont even bother. I had a rockford fosgate p3002 and it pushed harder than the legacy amp i had before which was suppose to be 2000 watts.

It all depends how much you are paying, if it's 2 ch, 4ch, mono and what you'll be using it for.
If it's "2400" watts, and 4 channel, it would probably be decent to run some front and/or rear speakers off, maybe push 50-75 watts per channel.
That being said, for around $60-$80 it would be alright...
Can you give us any more info?

The Predator line was brought out to match a current line of cheap subs and pre-fab boxes with the same name (fancy jaws and flames may look good to some, but it doesnt help the performance). They are avaliable at most flea-markets for about $125 Canadian or less. They do put out decent power, but at the cost of cheaper sound and high distortion when running at high volume. You will definately hear hiss, thumps and muddy bass if you are planning to push the amp hard. If I'm not mistaken, I do think they come with a 5 year warranty if you can find someone to work on them when you blow it up........

For $200 they should sell you 2 or 3 of those. The Stoffville Flea market has them with the fancy orange/black paint with the jaws and neon lighting for $150 installed including a wiring kit. If money is an issue, and you have $200 to burn, go to Car Audio Canada - Smart Auto Sound Solutions - Canada's Online Car Audio Store! and check out their refurbished/non current Ultimate T2 amps. $100 buys you a 4x55 watt rms amp, or 2x100 watts rms. They ship out of London Ontario, and I have 2 of them. Not so much as a burp from either and they will destroy anything Legacy makes and sound much better doing it. I have 2 of the T2 4 channel 55 watts running 3 pair 5 1/4 inch front doors, and 4th channel running 6 1/2 inch in the back. I also have their 400watt rms mono T2 amp running a 12 inch sub works great.

you obviously are a noob in this, because a non-noob wouldn't even bother with anything from Legacy/Pyramid

Don't get discouraged. Quite often on this site I have noticed some people have a bad opinion of anything not costing a mortgage payment. No matter if you pay $200 or $800 for an amp, if it isn't properly installed or if your speakers arent up to scratch, it will sound like scrap. As far as being a "noob", I've been called much worse things, and not everyone works in this business. I personally drive a truck, and haven't worked as an installer for many years, but I try to stay current on equipment by reading mags and offering my opinion on sites such as this. I do have some obscure knowledge that some find useful, and I try to help. Others just try to sell you something from their stores, and bash anything they personally don't have on their shelf. Ignore the cracks from ignorant people, they don't always know as much as what they think, and too many people think price is what makes something good.
A Predator amp might work very well if what you are trying to power is not high end stuff that requires a ton of clean power. Running a factory set of speakers, or even modest upgrades or a ported sub, this amp might work well for you and exceed your demands. But in my opinion, there are better amps out there and your money can be better spent.
Whatever you buy, if you are happy with the sound and it works well, who cares what anyone else says. It's not a show car, and you are the final judge, and the only one that matters.
