Installing a deck

Installing a deck
I finally got a cd deck to replace the one that was stolen from my car a while a go.
I went to install it. I got a new wiring harness for the deck and for my car. 1996 Chrysler LHS. Most of the wires match with their colours and if they didn't they was tiny writing on them to indicate where to match them up.
When I was finished matching up the wires there was 3 extra ones. 2 from the deck, and one from the car side. On the deck side there was a black wire(ground), and a blue with white stripe(no lable) wire and from the car side there was one yellow wire(illumination panel). So I hooked ground up to a metel screw that I found in the dash. Now I don't know what to do with the yellow wire and the extra one from the deck. I've blown the fuse for my dash illumination a few times so obviously I'm not hooking up the yellow wire correctly. Where should I be putting that?

Do a goolge search for the installdr.com and all the wiring diagrams should be posted there.

It was actually an orange wire. But thanks for the site. I'll look at it when I get back to Toronto

Orange wire (with white stripe) from car harness connects to orange wire from deck harness, all recent decks should have this dimmer control wire, it's used to activate the dimmer function on the deck's display when you turn on your headlights/parking lights. As for the blue wire w/white stripe it is used to connect to an external amp's Remote Control terminal that triggers the amp to turn itself on when you turn your deck on it's not necessary to connect this wire unless you're driving an external amp.

Thanks. The decks is 3 years old so it doesn't have a dimmer setting on it. I just taped up the two wires seperatly. Seems to work fine minus one small problem
The deck plays sound when I'm listening to radio stations. However when I try to play a cd no sound comes out. It plays the tracks and counts up the time but there is no sound. Any idea if this is just something as simple as a loose wire inside the deck?

The yellow wire is form the battery. The orange with a white stripe is the illumination. Your deck may not have the illumination feature so jsut insulate that wire with electrical tape and let it hang. The blue wire with the white stripe is the amplifier remote (the blue wire that turns the amp on when your deck turns on. A good practice is to insulate any wire you don't use to prevent a short-circuit.

Yellow - Constant 12V
Red - Ignition or turn on
Dimmer switch is not necessary, I rarely even wire it up...
The problem with the CD:
Try going through the setup to see if there is a volume for the different sources...basically it is a feature that allows you to change the volume for radio / cd / aux...such as when you switch from your radio to the CD its the same volume...Or it could be that the CD player is broken since its 3 years old...
There are only three wires that you need to power up a head unit....Yellow / Red / Black....Black is always ground and the other are the power wires...from there you just match up the speaker leads...The blue wire is the power antenna or remote which runs back to an external amplifier (Tape it up if you dont use an amp)...
