Question Call Police Because Of Loud Bass?

So, my buddy and I, after completing year one of university and being a little rowdy, went to pick up his sister at a local highschool. As we waited, my friend activated his 12' Kaption subwoofer and, as always, we listened to our Euro Anthems and partook in the earth rattling bass. Suddenly, from amidst the football field, a teacher wearing a suit runs towards our direction, pointing his finger at us, with an angered face that I can honestly say is synonymous with that of the pits of hell . He approaches the window and begins shouting at us to turn it down. My buddy’s straight from eastern Europe so he does not exactly comply nor understand the meaning of a request, or what seemed like a demand in this case, so as this teacher's face is partially in the window and as he is speaking, my friend drives off; the good thing, for all of us, is that the teacher's head remained on his shoulders. Nonetheless, prior to this incident, he told us that he will call the police because of the intensity of the sound, he even took down the car's license plate and I assume that he will be making a complaint. Subsequently, my question is, is a person under any legal liability to comply and turn down one’s bass in their own car? Are there actually freaking repercussions for this? If the answer is no, what is a good line I can use to shut down these kind of people. For ***** **** * ****** *** ***** ***** sakes, I just wanted to turn the volume up some more and give this guy a lesson in sound pressure levels, but nonetheless, some insight would be appreciated for the future. Thanks in advance  . Ez~

You can be charged with causing a disturbance if the cop wants to be a *****.
If you are sitting out front of a school with all that bass pumping, the bass really travels and vibrates the windows from a good system and it does really get anoying after a while.
If you are out cruising on public roads, I dont think there is much they can do, but infront of a school or a residential area you can be charged. Most of the time you will be asked to turn it down by the cop. Best thing to do is turn it down. Causing a disturbance is a criminal charge.
Alot of police forces are now looking into a new law against loud car stereos. Kind of falls in the same area as loud exhuast.

Yeah, I had a similar incident. But since I live in oakville everythign is extra enforced because there is no real crime here. I got pulled over at around 7:30 on a hot summers day last year in mid august. The cop told me that my music was too loud and that I could get charged. Personally I never knew the noise law was in affect untill like 11. But apparently Oakville passed a by-law because they wanted to be the "quiet" town. Anyways, I B/S'ed and said I was on and exchange program and just got back, blah blah blah.

Anways, My system isnt even that loud, Clarion component kit, audison amp. 10'' infiniti sub.. common. I've heard louder.

^^ 100% Correct.

The teacher actually did you a favour by askig (telling) you to turn it down. He could have just called the cops and then you would have had to deal with them.

Punishment could be anything from a warning to a fine or even having them confiscate your equipment.

Just turn it down next time. You're giving 'the rest of us' a bad name and it's turning in to a pretty big problem. (cops are becoming bigger aholes, towns are banning stereos..etc)

wow. I'm sorry, but it seems as though everything we all love are becomming banned, regulated and what not. I can understand engine mods and stuff. But car stereo? I know its annoying sometimes, and having a law against playing it past a certain time or in certain areas is all game. But banning? Common. I personally believe that there are much more pressing issues that need to be attended to in this Province. Putting the tax payers money towards getting people with loud car systems off the street shouldn't be at top priority. But in recent times, it seems as though it has.

Just my thoughs.

You do have to remember that just because you like it does not mean everyone wants to hear it. Having a kick *** stereo is cool, but when my windows rattle in my truck from the car next to me and all I hear is boom boom. It anoys the hell out of me.
And they cant ban you from having one but they can give you a ticket for having it too loud.
Just like having a fast car, there is a time and place when and when not to use it.
Just my thoughts

oh yeah. I definatly agree. Thats why I am all for, like you said, having a time and place to do so. Like any residential area should be a quiet zone during certain hours. Other than that, driving up Upper Middle after comming off the highway (where there is no residential areas around) shouldn't constitute a cause for a ticket, no? Like many people don't like what others do like, thats never going to change. If there was a law against things that people didn't like about one another, the guy on my street with a Mach 1 Stang would not be allowed to turn on his car for his little kid cause his neighbours don't like the sound of it.

I am just pointing out that as annoying as it may be sometimes, it shouldn't be justification to sort of ban certain aspects or have super expensive tickets for it. There are soo many aspects to this "debate" that the only answer to all of this is compromise.

Like for example, lets say during day time hours, After 9 am in the morning, you are allowed to play music within moderation as you please within residential areas, anytime after 9 pm in residential areas, it should be silent untill the next morning.

As for open roads, entertainment districts/ downtown / ANY ROAD that doesn't have any type of residential area within a 2 block radius should be allowed freedom of sound.

... lol. I sound like a friggen politician. Okay, I'll stop now. But does that make sense? Or fair if anything?

Ya it makes sense. Just somtimes I think everyone should use common sence and maybe think of where they are before they turn it up.
I dont remember seeing freedom of sound (lol) in the bill of rights. but other people dont allways want to hear it.
