PICS;900 Horse BMW

DA Motorsport completed the "900 hp Turbo M3 Project". On march 2003 we made 700 hp (at the flywheel) with the Garrett GT30/40. GT30/40 was more than enough at the beginning. Later on we decided to upgrade our turbo system with a bigger ball bearing turbocharger. Nowadays a Garrett GT42/51R resides under the hood of the M3. With 30 psi of boost we made 900 hp and 772 lb/ft of torque at the flywheel.

DA 900 Turbocharger Project consists of the following parts:

Engine:
- BMW S50B32 block
- Low compression forged pistons
- Forged connnecting rods
- Custom made connecting rod bolts

Cylinder Head:
- Schrick inner valve springs
- Schrick outer valve springs
- Schrick titanium upper retainers
- Schrick steel lower retainers
- Custom made cylinder head studs

Turbocharger:
- Garrett GT42/51R (800-1,000 hp depending on the compressor wheel)
- Ball bearing (the same model has a non ball bearing type)
- Custom made water and oil piping
- Custom made turbo flange
- Custom made turbocharger connecting unit
- 50 mm wastegate

Exhaust system:
- Hand made exhaust manifold: The new exhaust manifold was manufatured in 8 weeks. Stainless steel was chosen for its durability. Pipes with different lengths and diameter were welded together. At the end we have a pipe network under the hood. To make installation and removal of the manifold easier for periodic servicing we used flanges at various bends of the manifold.
- Ceramic coating of the manifold
- Wrapping of the manifold
- Hand made dump pipe 110 mm
- Hand made dump pipe flange
- Removal of the catalytic converter
- Removal of the resonators
- 2 x 80 mm straigt piping until the rear muffler
- Hand made rear muffler

Intercooler:
- 1000 hp air/air intercooler
- Hand made intercooler piping
- Water injection onto the intercooler

Intake Manifold
- Custom made intake manifold: 18,000 cc (1,104 cid)
- Cold air intake located at the rear of the left front fog light
- BMC Formula 1 air filter
(Below: the old manifold is compared with the new 18,000 cc manifold. GT30/40 is seen on the picture)

Fuel System:
- 3 x Bosch Motorsport fuel pumps
- Surge tank in the trunk
- Rising rate fuel pressure regulator
- 1,000 cc Delphi injectors
- Modified fuel injector rail
- Braided fuel lines
