Erik Dickerson's 1997 Honda Integra Type-R
In a land of endless JDM armed Hondas, it is getting increasingly difficult to find those that stand out. To find a master of his or her craft, JTuned looked to the ends of the earth. Enter Erik Dickerson's vintage 1997 Honda Integra Type-R. Just like fine wine that gets better with age, this car has all the right elements to make it a winner. However, unlike bottled wine, this car has to endure the elements from driving, so Dickerson opted to first restore the car by replacing several OEM parts. Brand new weather stripping, fenderliners, OEM carpet and interior plastics were sourced from Honda. He meticulously changed every bolt and nut in the engine bay and even went as far as reconditioning the brakes to look brand new. Becoming a fanatic of upkeeping your vehicle is truly the first step in becoming a master of this craft.
In Dickerson’s quest to uphold the proper JDM theme, he had MOBworks expertly paint the car in Dupont Chomabase Champion White. This is the very essence of what a Type-R should be and he chose nothing less. Clean add-ons like the BYS front bumper, carbon Spoon lip and Spoon mirrors perfectly compliment the 98 Spec rear hatch, tail lights and rear bumper — a tried and true combination and alluring to the eye.
Motivating the freshened Type-R is a 2000 spec JDM ITR motor. This high revving motor features the full parts catalog from Spoon, and at the heart of this collection is the beautiful and race proven Spoon header. Complimenting these parts are a host of Skunk2 head components for breathing duties which are complimented by larger Prelude injectors, Golden Eagle fuel rail, Vortech FPR and the almighty AEM EMS for orchestration of all these parts.
In keeping with proven components and the fresh and clean theme, Dickerson opted to arm this highly motivated ITR with some of the best suspension components available today. Top-of-the-line Mugen bushings are the start of his suspension upgrades with bracing duties handled by Spoon and Cusco. Endless/Zeal dampers with pillow ball mounts are the centerpiece of this vehicle’s impressive collection of suspension upgrades.
For braking duties, Spoon calipers and Brembo rotors adorn this ITR. Like any true master of this craft, Dickerson has also amassed an impressive collection of essential wheels such as 16-inch Spoon Sports SW388s, 16-inch white Regamasters, 16-inch silver Regamasters and the obligatory forged 16-inch bronze MF-10s. This enables Dickerson to choose his shoes whenever he wants...must be nice!
Dickerson has outfitted the interior of this ITR with envy-inducing parts such as the rare Vision IMUS Kevlar Reclinable Bucket seat which goes well with the brand new JDM ITR Black Recaros. An ARC Titanium shiftknob and Personal Steering wheel are nice touches to this immaculate interior.
With such simple, yet striking upgrades that blend in to commit to the JDM theme, Dickerson has brought to life a car that not only embodies a fresh and clean look, but has been able to set himself apart from the rest of the massive JDM Hondas out in the U.S. today.
