Back In Style (92 golf inside)
Some hardcore Euro fans just know how to stick to their roots. Garrett Goodman couldn’t part with his ’92 VW Golf GL, and instead decided to add his own flare to the car. Mostly focused on performance, Goodman reinforced the entire power train setup and fabricated a custom turbo kit onto the car. The 2L engine received an ABA bottom end and a ported G60 head with ARP head studs. Comprised of a Mitsubishi 20G turbo on a custom exhaust manifold, the turbo setup is supported with an HKS Super Sequential blow off valve and a 3" turbo back exhaust system. The turbo setup is properly cooled with a 4x8 PWR liquid to air intercooler system with a Jabsco pump.
As if turbo alone wasn’t enough, the fully built motor gets more fun with a 70shot of NOS direct port. Tuning the entire car is a Corrado G60 ECU and engine harness equipped with a custom SNS stage five chip. Fuel is fed into the system with 42lb injectors. Getting the power to the ground is an O2A Corrado transmission properly accented with a Peliquin LSD. 13 years later and the Golf was in desperate need of new brakes, so it received more from its Corrado counterpart. G60 brakes paired with Brembo cross drilled rotors and Hawk race pads are seen behind each wheel.
Suspension is handled with a set of FK High sport coilovers with dampening adjustability. The entire exterior of the car was repainted with every piece of molding replaced. It may have rolled off the showroom floor in ’92, but this car still has a brand new showroom shine. The rear taillights were replaced with Hella half-smoked units as well. Some MOMO amenities décor the interior with race seats, a steering wheel and a shift ****. Wrap it all up with a GReddy turbo timer and this ’92 Golf is one of a kind.
