Exclamation '96 Cadillac Fleetwood ***Pic's & Info***

Carface Owner: David Sandoval Vehicle: '96 Cadillac Fleetwood City/State: Phoenix, Arizona Club: Phoenix Prime C.C.

Engine/Drivetrain: The stock 350-c.i.d. LT underwent some modifications to increase its performance and appearance.

Body/Paint: Being a professional painter at Roosevelt Auto Body in Tempe, Arizona, David knew that no one else was going to perform the prep and paint on his car. He used a "secret concoction" of orange, reds and purple, and then called on celebrated pinstriper "Bugs" of Gilbert, Arizona, and muralist Tom at T-Step Printing in Tempe to finish the job with fine-line brushwork and murals featuring Al Pacino's "Scarface" character with some seductive femme fatales in various states of undress.

Interior: It was a big day at Big Dave's Customs in Phoenix when they rolled out the newly reupholstered Fleetwood with its butterscotch leather seats, fiberglass dash and door panels, custom striped door panels and orange carpet.

Sound System: A Kenwood Excelon head unit sends the signal to JL Audio amps and speakers, including 12-inch subwoofers. Soundwerks in Tempe gets the credit for the system.

Setup: As featured in the July '06 "Dumps" section, the custom hydraulics setup featuring Red's whammy pumps was hooked up by Leonard and Craig at Hoppers Hydraulics in Phoenix. The three-month project features Delta dumps, 8-inch (front) and 10-inch (rear) cylinders, 4-ton springs, four switches, six solenoids, four batteries, tubular battery racks and a custom round cooling filter that keeps the oil from boiling. The 2-inch "fat boy" blocks are plumbed in 31/48-inch tubing and hooked up with fiberglass and painted panels. Pete's Custom Metal Finishing in Phoenix chrome plated the setup mingling in the trunk with the audio components.

Tires: P175/70-R14

Wheels: 14x7 Dayton with powdercoated spokes

First spotlighted in the July '06 "Dumps" section dedicated to excellence in show-quality hydraulic setups, David Sandoval's colorful '96 Cadillac Fleetwood has more going for it than just the "good-looking trunk compartment" that captured our attention at the Phoenix, Arizona, Lowrider Tour show. So much more, in fact, that a full-on feature on the fabulous Fleetwood was a foregone conclusion.

The vehicle's exterior, interior and sound system are equally impressive, and all contribute to making the attractive Cadillac a trophy winner. The owner's no stranger to the world of show-quality customs. David tells us that he's been building cars since he was 17 years old. He's now a prime mover with Phoenix Prime Car Club and is recognized as one of the top body/paint pros in the Phoenix area.

Even with all of his experience and expertise, David ran into a snag or two with this seven-month project. "Sometimes, you rely on shops to get your car done and sometimes you have to do it yourself," he says. "The aggravating part about it is taking your car to a shop and relying on them to get things done on time. Sometimes, you just have to do it yourself."

This do-it-yourself attitude paid off for David. Just like its thematic inspiration, the Scarface movie, David's "Carface" Cadillac is testament to one man's pursuit of the top spot (only unlike Al Pacino's title character, David received some help from his fellow car club members and he didn't have to kill anyone). "You can see what happens when you do it yourself," concludes David. "You get a better outcome."
