Plato takes first Cruze win
Jason Plato secured his first win in the Chevrolet Cruze with victory in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Rockingham.
Plato blasted into the lead when the lights went out and would remain in the lead for the remainder of the race, despite coming under pressure in the closing stages from the BMW of Rob Collard.
Collard had started the race down in tenth place on the grid but quickly made his way up the order to run in fifth place by the end of the second lap. The WSR driver then battled ahead of Matt Neal to run third before Steven Kane ran wide at Deene on lap twelve, allowing Collard into second.
Despite closing in on Plato through the closing laps, Collard was unable to find a way past and had to settle for second place, just half a second behind the Chevrolet at the finish.
Kane had to settle for third place with Airwaves BMW team-mate Mat Jackson in fourth, with Andrew Jordan and Tom Chilton rounding out the top six – Chilton having spent much of the race stuck behind Neal who slipped down the order as the race wore on.
Tom Onslow-Cole took seventh ahead of Paul O’Neill and Neal, with James Nash taking the final point after a long battle with Tom Boardman which ended with contact at Deene two laps from home. Boardman was forced to retire as a result.
