Engineering is what Sets Cruze Apart, Officials Say
It’s a vehicle that General Motors is very proud of.
“I think it’s exceptional styling on the inside and out.*I think it will have ten airbags on the inside,” said Jim Campbell, general manager of Chevrolet.
The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car that engineers say will have a mid-size car feel.
“The Cruze is basically sized a little bit different than the Cobalt was,” said Gary Altman, GM’s*chief engineer for compact cars.* “It’s a mid-sized interior.*It adds spaciousness and roominess.*It has a good 15-cubic-foot trunk capacity. And then packaged in a compact-sized vehicle”
GM has designed the inside of the car to have more room than its predecessors.*Officials think that, along with the style and technology of the Cruze, will make the vehicle more competitive against cars like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic.
But there is another aspect of the Cruze that is perhaps the most crucial.*It has 1.4 liter turbo-charged Ecotec engine.*That engine is expected to get 40 miles*to the gallon, which is big for GM.
“You’re going to see Chevrolet using this application in other models,”*said Campbell.*”It really provides a great combination of performance.*It’s fun to drive, combined with fuel efficiency.”
GM believes that this vehicle has it all: safety, technology, styling and quality.*And they think will Cruze will see similar success here in the U.S. that it is seeing elsewhere.
“So far every market we’re selling the car in, we are selling out of what we can manufacture,” said Altman.*”It’s been done very well in Korea.*In China it’s one of the top leading vehicles.*And also in Europe at this time.”
